Man of La Mancha
AUDITIONS: 6:30pm-10:00pm Wednesday May 18, Thursday May 19, Friday May 20. Location: Room 161 in Presser Hall, Illinois Wesleyan University. Please arrive at 6:30pm on May 18, 19 or 20 for your initial audition. On each day, auditions will begin at 6:30pm with movement, followed by singing and then reading from the script.
CALLBACKS: Callbacks will begin at 8:00pm Friday, May 20. Location: Room 161 Presser Hall, Illinois Wesleyan University.
PERFORMANCE DATES: August 5-9. All performances start at 7:30pm, except Sunday, August 7 which begins at 3pm.
REHEARSALS: Begin Tuesday, July 5
Audition Prep
- Auditioners should prepare 32-50 measures of a song that includes piano accompaniment.
- Please, no a cappella or singing with a recording.
- Put loose pages in a binder for the pianist’s ease of playing.
- Any song that shows off your voice and acting is fine. The selection may be from the show, but is not required to be from the show.
- Auditioners will be asked to read scenes from the script.

Characters
Don Quixote (Cervantes): Baritone/Tenor, C to High E-flat. Tall, thin man in his late forties, he is an actor, playwright, and would-be knight. He is a romantic—some sane crazy—and has a vision of a far better and nobler world, where knights and chivalry rule the day.
Sancho (The Manservant): Tenor, C to High G. Older than Don Quixote, Sancho is short and squat. He has served Quixote/Cervantes for many years and is devoted to him, even with all his idiosyncracies.
Captain of the Inquisition
Aldonza: Mezzo-Soprano, low A-flat to High A-flat. A serving woman and a part-time prostitute at the inn, Aldonza is rough on the exterior, but has a gentle heart inside and yearns to believe what Don Quixote tells her. Quixote falls in loves with her and insists her name is Dulcinea and that she is a beautiful, gentle woman.
The Innkeeper (The Governor): Baritone. A large and powerful man, he is kind as the Innkeeper, but as the Governor is the leader of the inmate society in the prison.
Dr. Carrasco (The Duke): Baritone/Tenor, C to High D-flat. As the character of the Duke he sidekick to the Governor; however, when he plays Dr. Carrasco, he is Antonia’s fiancé. He thinks Don Quixote mad and insists that he come home and be treated for his malady.
The Padre: Tenor, F to High G
Antonia: Soprano, C to High F. Quixote’s niece and Dr. Carrasco’s fiancée.
The Housekeeper: Alto (needs high range), Low A-flat to High A-flat.
The Barber: Tenor, D to High G.
Pedro: Baritone, D to D. The head muleteer, Pedro is a mean and vicious man, leading an attack on Aldonza.
Anselmo: Tenor (+ Falsetto), G to High F#. A muleteer
The Moor: High Tenor up to High C (could drop an octave down)
Contour: Tenor, F to A-flat.
Jose: A muleteer
Juan: A muleteer
Paco: a muleteer
Tenorio: A muleteer
Maria: The Innkeeper’s wife
Fermina: A servant girl
